Hand Sanitizer Brands to Avoid Due to Methanol Substance

With COVID-19 still on the rise in some states, everyone is continuing to purchase hand sanitizer as well as other products to cut down the spread of germs.

After hand sanitizer shortages from brands such as Purrell, new companies have entered the market to produce hand sanitizers. The major difference is that these new sanitizers contain methanol instead of the usual ethanol (ethyl alcohol). Methanol is used as a solvent, pesticide and alternative fuel source according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). When methanol is absorbed through the skin or ingested, it becomes a toxic substance that can cause nausea, vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system and in some cases death.
